Curriculum: Music

Cello lesson with music teacher

The aim of the Music department is to inspire and encourage a love of music and develop an interest and respect of all styles and genres. The course is based on the main elements of the National Curriculum: Performing, Composing, Listening and Appraising. Pupils are encouraged to enjoy creating their own music in class, individually, in pairs and groups.

A specialist Music block, comprising of a large teaching room and four practice rooms, opened in October 2006. This outstanding facility, combined with new instruments and resources, is the perfect environment to develop children’s creativity and their love for music.

There is a wide range of musical groups and clubs of various sizes in the school: Wind Band, Choir, String Group, Brass Group, Percussion Group, African Drumming, Jazz Group,
Guitar Group and Music Club.

Rehearsals mainly take place at lunchtimes or after school and provide our pupils with fantastic opportunities to develop their musical skills, express and enjoy themselves creatively and
work together with their peers.

Our musicians participate in numerous concerts and services throughout the year, both in school and in the wider community, which feature all of our ensembles, combined with solo
performances.
