How the Report Works
It is hoped that the following information will assist you in reading the subject reports for your son or daughter. In all the sections improvement in performance is shown from left to right.
Effort
An effort grade E to A will be awarded according to the 'best fit' against the following two criteria, firstly attitude and behaviour and, secondly, classwork.
| Requires close supervision to keep on task; Tasks are frequently incomplete and usually need revision; Easily distracted and unwilling to try to follow class or group activities; Makes little effort to participate in group work; Often offends against the classroom code of conduct; Careless with personal organisation and equipment, arriving late for lessons and reluctant to begin work. |
|
| Will work on a task under general supervision; Usually does the minimum required to complete a task; Can be distracted after a short time in class or group activities; Relies on others rather than contributing in group work; Needs regular reminders to keep to the code of conduct in class; Tends to be poorly equipped, disorganised and is slow to arrive for lessons and begin work. |
|
| Works steadily and usually keeps to the set task; Produces finished work of an acceptable standard; Is sufficiently attentive in class activities to play a useful part; Plays a useful part in group activities in most circumstances; Knows the code of conduct in class and can follow it; Is usually suitably equipped for lessons, punctual and ready to work with the minimum of fuss. |
|
| Shows an interest and can remain on task; Tries hard to produce work which is good by his/her own standard; Displays an interest in class or group activities; Can be relied on to contribute effectively to group activities; Understands the classroom code and applies it consistently; Is suitably equipped for lessons, arrives on time and is ready to work. |
|
| Maintains interest and concentration throughout a set task; Tries his/her best and strives to improve in all aspects of work; Is keen and attentive in class or group activities; Works co-operatively in group activities supporting or organising others when necessary; Displays sensible, polite behaviour in all classroom activities; Is well equipped for lessons and is keen to follow instructions and begin work. |
Programmes of Study
The programmes of study give an overview of the areas each pupil in the year group will have been looking at over the year. It should be noted that lower attaining pupils may not have covered all areas whilst higher attaining pupils may have exceeded that given in the programme of study. Alternatively, they may have covered the same aspects, but to differing levels of depth.
Attainment
Attainment is given against National Curriculum levels of achievement in all subjects except PSHCE for which there are none.
National Curriculum Levels
Key Stage 2 (Years 5 and 6) - most pupils are expected to work within levels 3 - 5
Key Stage 3 (Years 7 and 8) - most pupils are expected to work within levels 4 - 7
Pupils' attainment can be divided up further as they work their way through the levels e.g. a pupil who has just started working at level 5 will be awarded 5C whereas a pupil who is working towards level 6 will be awarded 5A.
The following diagram explains how the levels are awarded.
Homework
In subjects where homework is set, a pupil's performance is recorded indicating the standards of
completing and handing the homework in on time.
Targets
The targets indicate areas in each subject that a pupil should concentrate on to improve his/her
performance in the future. If none of the 'standard' targets apply alternative ones should be given
elsewhere.
Areas of Concern and Praise
Aspects such as attitude and application have been listed. Where any of these are a cause for
concern and require attention to improve the pupil's performance, the left-hand box will be ticked.
If the statement is one in which the pupil is performing to a high standard the right-hand box will be ticked.
Written Comments
The teacher may comment about such things as the general performance of the pupil,
specifics not covered elsewhere on the sheet, and expand on other areas.
